A Conversation on the Future of Kingston:
Imagine Kingston and St Lawrence College to host Federal Candidates Meeting September 22
KINGSTON - The public will have an opportunity to hear Kingston and the Islands candidates discuss their visions for the country and riding’s future at an all-candidates panel discussion hosted by the Imagine Kingston Roundtable and St Lawrence College on Tuesday, September 22. The event will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Davies Hall, St. Lawrence College.

The evening will begin with each candidate briefly describing his understanding of the key riding issues that a federal MP can influence. This will be followed by a conversational question and answer period led by a panel of Imagine Kingston and community members. The panel will receive written questions from the audience.

“The format will encourage candidates to explain their views in more detail -- to respond to follow-up questions and go beyond practiced campaign answers, “says Timo Hytonen current Chair of Imagine Kingston.  “We’re particularly interested in how each candidate intends to support a healthy community, sustained by a prosperous economy.”

The Imagine Kingston Roundtable was founded in 2006 by Walter Fenlon. Most recently it hosted a summit of more than 50 community leaders in March to identify key issues affecting the future of Kingston. The group, which meets monthly and includes senior leadership from private, public and community sectors, acts as a catalyst for the advancement of ideas that enhance the city's social, cultural, educational and business endeavours.

“The roundtable connects idea champions with interested groups, influencers and decision-makers that can assist in moving good ideas forward here in Kingston and area,” says Fenlon. “We are interested in building and promoting Kingston as a well-rounded community that takes full advantage of its outstanding assets – human, social, geographic, cultural, heritage, educational and business.”

Panelists will include Peng Sang Cau, President and CEO Transformix; Beth Insley President Student Association St Lawrence College; Dr. Kathy Brock Professor of Political Science and Timo Hytonen President of Voima Financial and Chair of Imagine Kingston. Roundtable member, Bill Leggett, will serve as moderator.
