Work has started recently on the Five Year Update of the City’s Official Plan, a project which is being integrated with the development of the City’s new Comprehensive Zoning By-Law.
This is an important process for Countryside, because it deals with land-use priorities and designations, as well as the policies that guide decisions around changing land use, severing properties, and protection of environmental and agricultural areas. Countryside has most of Kingston's land, so these policies can impact our business practices, our communities, and our lifestyle. I will be sure to participate in this process, and it is important for as many people from Countryside to share their perspectives as well.
The Planning, Building & Licensing Department has established an accelerated timeline for this project and they anticipate both major planning documents to be completed by the end of the first quarter in 2017. Work is starting immediately on the Official Plan Update, and it is anticipated starting work on the Zoning By-Law next month.
Staff are making a concerted effort to consult with a wide range of stakeholders across the City of Kingston. The first public meeting entitled “What’s New?” is scheduled for March 30th at the INVISTA Centre from 5 to 8 p.m. with a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Keep your eye on the following web pages for information about meetings, proposed changes and other relevant information when it comes to these incredibly important documents.
