Solar proposals are popping up as part of a competition for to participate in the Provincial renewable energy program. All approvals for this are provincially mandated. As part of the IESO competitive process for Large Renewable Energy Projects (LRP), municipalities may provide an endorsement to any projects they wish to succeed in the process. As all solar development in Kingston appears to be in the Rural Area, the Rural Advisory committee will consider each proposal, and advise City Council on which proposals to endorse.
The process required of these projects is outlined in this report from staff. This page will be updated with links to the the staff review of the solar energy proposals approximately one week prior to the meeting.
At 6:30pm on August 20, 2015 the Rural Advisory Committee will conduct a Public Meeting at Fairmount Home in order to hear presentations from the developers behind some of the proposed solar energy centres located in Kingston and across Countryside. I encourage residents from across Kingston to attend and learn more about renewable energy proposals that affect our community. For more information, and the official notice of Public Meeting, click here.
The agenda and staff reports associated with this meeting will be available on August 14 from the City of Kingston website. You will be able to find that information by clicking here. If you have comments, concerns or letters of support that you would like to communicate to the committee, you may do so by emailing the committee clerk, Ms. Blumenberg: email@example.com
City Council will meet on August 26 to review and approve the the recommendations from the Rural Advisory Committee.
