In late 2015, The City of Kingston, Canada Lands and Correctional Services Canada have made the decision to work with the community in order to determine a vision for the future of Kingston Pen and Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The work will be undertaken through the summer of 2016.
This exercise will give the community and interested stakeholders an opportunity to voice what they would like to see for these sites. Meetings, interviews and public consultation will form part of the visioning exercise. No decisions will be made about the future of the properties (with the exception of CSC land on the east end of the harbor that will be set aside for relocation of the Canadian Coast Guard Kingston lifeboat station) until public consultation has taken place. This includes decisions about municipal heritage designation.
There will be two workshops – one at 3 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. – featuring a brief presentation on the study purpose, process, schedule, key opportunities and challenges, and an interactive activity to identify key directions for the vision and fundamental principles. There will be focus group discussions on:
- Heritage and culture
- Market, economics, finance
